ABS is a product of copolymerization of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, i.e. a modification of high-impact polystyrene. ABS plastic sheets are laminated by single- or multilayer extrusion of the highest strength.

Polypropylene sheet is obtained by extrusion of polypropylene. It shows practically no hygroscopic properties, has perfect chemical resistance to most aggressive environments. It is used in concentrated and weak organic and inorganic acids. Ideal non-conductor.

Polystyrene – plastic, in outward appearance identical to transparent Perspex. The most popular are colourless and tinted sheets.

LPPE is a kind of polymers belonging to the class of polyolefins. Polyolefins make up over 60% of all 150 mln tons of polymers produced in the world.

ABS Plastic

ABS is a product of copolymerization of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, i.e. a modification of high-impact polystyrene. ABS plastic sheets are laminated by single- or multilayer extrusion of the highest strength.

 

The surface of the sheets may be either matt or glossy, with various types of embossing. They may be complemented with UV- stabilizer, painted in different colours in mass with the variety of shades (including metallic effects).

 

ABS plastic sheets are alkali and detergent resistant, nontoxic and durable.

THERMAL, OPTICAL, MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Solid (hard), ductile at temperature up to 40 °С, has limited weather resistance and low water absorption. Normal ABS plastic withstands short-term heating to 90 - 100 °С, the so-called “heat-resistant ABS plastic” – to 110 - 130 °С. Maximal temperature of continuous service: 75 - 80 °С (heat-resistant - to 90 - 100 °С). Gains a glossy surface (there are special brands with higher and lower gloss). It has high impact resistance as compared to general purpose polystyrene, high-impact polystyrene and other styrene copolymers. Abrasion-resistant/durable. Mechanical properties vary widely subject to copolymer composition.

 

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

It has good chemical resistance. Alkali, oil lubricant, inorganic salt and acid solution, hydrocarbon, fat and petrol/gasoline resistant. But non-persistent to acetone, ether, ethylized benzol, ethyl chloride, ethylene chloride, aniline, benzol, UV-radiation. ABS is opaque, highly inflammable, burns with yellow glow and soot formation, has a typical sweetish smell (the small of styrene).

 

APPLICATION AREA

ABS plastic sheets are used for manufacturing by thermoforming the details for automobile interior finish such as facing the rear truck of a motor car, upper trunk (with UV-stabilization), door panels, car cassette radio bodies as well as details for refrigerators, consumer products, production of aquariums. They can be used as ornamental and facing material.

There may be included panels, frames, dashboard panels, window framing, facing of doors and other details such as gitters, wheel caps, lights bodies and exterior mirrors, air inlet throats, bumpers, etc.
